Chicken Question

Two of our hens--Buff and Sunshine--have been brooding and hopefully are getting out of the stage pretty soon. With brooding, they enjoy being in their nests for quite a long time and want to be mothers, so they pretend they are laying on eggs. But, we can't just leave them in the nests every single day. They have to eat, drink, and roam around to get exercise. So, Josh placed some bricks in the four nests so the two brooders can't be in the nests. However, our dear hen Cole isn't brooding and still lays eggs. What do you do, those who have chickens, when some of them are brooding and some aren't?

We have Isa Browns and they're not "broody". Cole may not be broody depending on the breed of chicken, the season, or molt. And some hens just aren't interested in sitting in a nest for three weeks!

Do you want Cole to brood? or you want the others to stop?

In Christ,
Josh

Even though we have tons of chickens, the breed that we have doesn't brood...could it just be a stage that they're going through?

I'll keep thinking!

Josh-Thank you for your comment! Well, I don't want Cole to brood. (: I would love to have the others stop; however, when I unlocked them this morning, Sunshine and Buff (more Buff, though) still kinda had their brooding squawk, and are not in the nests. I guess the next trick will be to have to take the bricks out of the nests and see what happens! :D

Jenna-Thank you for your comment! That's neat that the breed you have doesn't brood. Maybe I'll have to check into those next time (hint hint) ;D I guess it could be a stage that they go through....thank you for helping me out! :)
